The View from My Office

Well here I am in downtown (read 'burbs) Brisbane, and it is wet, wet, wet!

I look out my office (spare room) window and I see the retaining wall and fence separating us from our neighbours, we live on a relatively small block, so our fence is not that far from the house maybe 1.8 - 2m max.

Lets face it, we all know what a treated sleeper wall and treated fence palings look like when they are left to weather. Yep, greeny, grey lines, horizontal and vertical with a sliver of sky above before my eye then crashes into our eaves. Extraordinarily uninspiring, especially on a rainy day!

So, with a thought that came in from out of the blue, I think I will paint a mural on the wall, or at least line it with pots and hanging baskets, I could make it look like the hanging gardens of Babylon. That could look pretty cool. Will post a before and after pic. Can't do anything now till the weather clears anyway. But it's a good plan.

What would you do if it were your place?

  1. HI BELINDA,

THE WET WET WET ;) I WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME OF IT! HERE IN CALIFORNIA ITS HOT HOT HOT AT THE MOMENT. SO HOT THAT YOU PREFER TO STAY IN THE HOUSE ....
BUT I UNDERSTAND YOU. I WOULD PAINT THE WALL YELLOW-ORANGE, BECAUSE THE REFLECTING LIGHT OF THE COLOUR WOULD SEND YOU SOME SUN INTO YOUR OFFICE.
I ALSO WOULD PLANT SOME PLANTS, BECAUSE SOMETHING GREEN IS GOOD FOR YOUR SOUL, ISN'T IT.

I WISH YOU FUN AND SUCCESS WITH THAT PROJECT!

BY THE WAY I SAW YOUR STUNNING HOUSE PROJECT! THE ONE WITH THE SCULPTURE LIKE HOUSE WITH THE ORANGE CEILINGS AND WALLS!!! MY FAVOURITE COLOUR!

  3. Kris,
Fay is an amazing woman and actually designed the house herself. Her husband is a mechanical engineer and organised all the structural steel work etc. They have always done things in a big and somewhat unusual way. That is one of the reasons I love working with them. They are afraid of nothing.
It is quite strange visiting with them now they have moved into a 2 story home that is probably 1/3 the size of the orange house. They have so much stuff they have it in storage everywhere! Time to cull...
Thanks for your comments. Have an awesome weekend.
    Belinda
